Arsenal transfer news: Ramsey drops Barcelona switch hint
Welsh wizard Aaron Ramsey has admitted he's "flattered" to be linked with a move to Barcelona after claims in the Evening Standard and elsewhere this weekend that the European champions were lining up a £50m move for the playmaker, who has blossomed at the Gunners over the past couple of season.
Asked about the rumours during Arsenal's Emirates Cup jaunt, Ramsey replied: "Obviously it's very flattering. They did the treble last year and it's just really nice to be linked with one of the best clubs in the world." And pressed on whether a move to the Camp Nou was imminent, the Welsh international said: "One day I would like to go over to Spain to play... but at the moment I'm with Arsenal and I feel like this Arsenal team can go and be successful and challenge for things." added Ramsey.
According to Caughtoffside Ramsey's comments will only encourage Barcelona and add to speculation that a big money offer will be tabled shortly.
Elsewhere, Metro says Arsenal are "close to sealing a deal" for AC Milan goalkeeper Marco Amelia. Reports from Italy say that the 33-year-old will replace Wojciech Szczesny in the squad once the Pole confirms his move to Roma. Asked about the Arsenal move, Amelia responded: "I signed a confidentiality agreement, so I cannot say anything."
And the Daily Express says that the Gunners have "agreed a deal for Ajax youngster Donyell Malen". It's believed Arsenal scouts watched the 16-year-old in action last season and now have thrashed out a contract with Malen's agent that involves a scholarship contract "which will become a professional deal when he turns 17".
Finally Theo Walcott, who scored the winner in Arsenal's 1-0 defeat of Wolfsburg on Sunday, is close to signing a new contract with the Gunners. The Independent says that the England ace "will be paid in excess of £100,000-a-week and sign a deal running until 2019". When asked if Walcott had agreed a deal, Arsene Wenger replied: "Not yet but we're getting closer and closer. Hopefully we can finalise it very soon."
